Xbox 360 has a real Achilles’ heal and that it does not support any of the next generation optical formats. PlayStation 3 has been pushing hard for the fact that it has native support for Blu-ray which of course adds a lot of value to the console if you want to use it to watch high resolution movies. Microsoft launched Xbox 360 way to early to be able to integrate any of the formats, but it has for long insinuated that a HD DVD player will find its way into the console. Now it seems that it will not happen this way, but Microsoft has in its Keynote at CES announced that it will launch an external model instead. The external HD DVD player will arrive sometime next and it is going to be interesting to see how Microsoft will solve this and at what cost.
