It seems that a file containing parts of the Windows NT4 and 2000 source code has been leaked out. CNET News reports that this 203 MB file has been circulating on IRC and P2P-networks. This is however only a small fragment from the full source code which according to CNET News is supposed to be around 40 GB.

The question now is if this leak will give us even more evil computer viruses or maybe be something positive.

””It’s definitely not a good thing if black hats have the source code,” said Oliver Friedrichs, senior manager with antivirus company Symantec’s security response center. ”The underground can look at the code without legitimate security researchers being able to find vulnerabilities first.””
