YouTube fortsätter att utveckla sin onlinebaserade videotjänst och har nu meddelat att man lyft den tidigare filmlängdsbegränsningen från 10 minuter till 15 minuter. Tidigare har endast YouTube-partners kunnat ladda upp längre klipp än 10 minuter.
YouTube uppgraderade ganska nyligen sitt system med stöd för 4K upplösta videoklipp och man fick då viss kritik från bland annat undertecknad att den nya upplösningen inte var mer än ett PR-trick och att tiden borde lagts på annan utveckling.
Nu menar YouTube att man lyssnat på sina användare när man gör det möjligt att ladda upp filmer längre än 10 minuter, en funktion som ska vara den mest efterfrågade av tjänstens användare. Att begränsningen funnits så länge förklarar man med att man inte haft ett effektivt system för att hantera kopieringsskyddat material, något man nu löst med sitt Content ID-system.
Now, all of the major U.S. movie studios, music labels and over 1,000 other global partners use Content ID to manage their content on YouTube. Because of the success of these ongoing technological efforts, we are able to increase the upload limit today. We will continue our strong commitment to provide advanced technology and tools to protect the rights of small and large copyright owners worldwide. We’ll also do everything we can to release incremental improvements like this one that benefit our video creators.
