AMD has earlier indicated that its universal platform Socket M2 would be launched during the first quarter of 2006. Now it seems that it will have top push it further into the future and the massprouction of this platform won’t happen until April, 2006. Socket M2 supports DDR2 and even if this finally means that DDR2 will be accepted for all platforms DDR1 will still be around for quite some time. AMD has DDR1 in its high performance platforms all the way up to the first quarter of 2007 and Sempron will use DDR1 even longer. When Socket M2 will be launched there will also be a massive processor launch by AMD, it simply transfers all of today’s processor series to the new platform.
