SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display) is one of the new display technologies that has been under development the last couple of years and what makes SED technology different is that it takes advantage of the advantages with the CRT technology and use them with the slim LCD format. Toshiba and Canon are two of the driving forces behind SED and it has now announced that it will start mass producing SED based display panels in July, 2007, and launch the first SED TVs in Q4 of 2007. Toshiba and Canon, although being a bit one-sided, claims that the introduction of SED TVs will be a milestone for the display market, as big as the introduction of the first CRT TVs. Anyhow, we are looking forward to the SED technology and seeing how it performs, and especially what they will cost.
