Apple has made big updates to its product assortment and the minimalistic Mac Mini is one of the systems that have (finally) been updated. First of all the entry model has been updated with a new and faster processor, Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz and twice the RAM, 2GB. Other components worth mentioning is 160GB harddrive and NVIDIA’s GeForce 9400M chipset. If you’re prepared to fork out another $200 for the top model you get 2.53GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and 320GB storage.

With NVIDIA’s integrated graphics and faster processors the new Mac Mini fill fare better as the HTPC market grows with more High Definition video format. We still lack a regular HDMI output instead of Apple’s own odd output.

At the same time Mac Mini has been launch in a server variant that has the same minimalistic format but 1TB storage using two 2.5″ 500GB harddrives. The operating system is OS X Snow Leopard Server and it comes with five USB ports on the back, leaving much potential for adding more storage capacity.

The entry level model of Mac Mini costs $599, the top model costs $799 while the server model costs $999. All models are available today.
