Small preview imageFew network card has ever gained so much attention as Bigfoot Network’s Killer NIC. Especially considering the short time it has been around. Killer NIC has hit the shelves in certain stores but most are still wondering what you actually get for $280; does it really offer better ping and higher FPS with online games? At GD Hardware they’ve tried to answer this and now published a review of Killer NIC where they’ve also inlcuded a number of benchmarks for both ping and game performance.

It turns out the lower pings they’ve been gragging about is hardly revolutionizing but the card does improve the overall performance which results in a higher FPS. Unfortunately they don’t dig any deeper, with different resolutions and such, to see how Killer NIC performs during different circumstances but compared to NVIDIA’s integrated nForce network circuit it offered up to 20% higher FPS.

In other terms it seems that the dedicated network processor does help, the question is how Killer NIC performs when compared to other dedicated network cards. There are many questions left unanswered but the fog is starting to clear up a little.
