Intel Pentium D would have had availability as one of its big upsides compared to AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 series. The two processor-series with dual cores was both announced quite a while ago but so far none has reached the shelves in any larger quantities. Athlon 64 X2 hasn’t actually been launched yet, but it doesn’t seem that Intel will get the headstart it was counting on. According to latest rumours Intel won’t ba able to ship more than 500 000 Pentium D-processors during 2005, mainly because of a so far a very demand. If and how this will affect AMD’s with Athlon 64 X2 remains to see.
