Intel will increase the production of its own chipsets in an attempt to stop selling motherboards with third-party chipsets. It wants to at least minimize the use of third-party chipsets, as it makes it vulnerable and reliant on other copmanies. This information comes from the investment bank FBRG (Friedman Billings, Ramsey Group), that has at the same time lowered ATI’s buy value as the graphics circuit manufacturer is one of Intel’s largest chipset suppliers.

The problem now, FBRG claims, is that some mobo vendors are increasingly replacing chipsets for Intel CPUs with parts for AMD chips, and Intel is allegedly increasing production of its own chipsets in a bid to counter the trend. Don’t forget, it’s also gearing up to ship its 965-series ’Broadwater’ chipsets targeting its next-generation CPU architecture.
