French lawmakers have now given their approval to the law that would force Apple to make it possible to use music from iTMS with all types of media players. This will most likely not mean that Apple wil open up its system but most likely just retreat from France as this market only makes up about 5% of the total for iTMS, but since the proposal has not yet made it into a law and that other countries may follow Apple has chosen to wait and best case scenario it will get to choose who gets to use iTMS’ content. They did however leave a small opening in the proposal which could be accessed through new deals with the music industry. Exactly what this means remains to be seen.
