Intel Core i7, based on the Nehalem architecture, will make its first appearance in the fourth quarter and we have known for some time that there will be three models to begin with. Information on the names of these models have started to leak on to the web now. The three models will appear in the first two months where the flagship will be become the next carrier of the Extreme Edition suffix. The models use a 9xx naming schedule where Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition i7-965 will be the name of the flagship, it will operate at 3.2GHz and sport a QPI bus of 6.4GT/s.



The remaining models will be named Intel Core i7-940 and Intel Core i7-920 clocked at 2.93GHz and 2.66GHz respectively. All processors slide into Intel’s new LGA1366 socket, while the latter two have a QPI bus of 4.8GT/s.
