The world largest country (counting its citizens) has for some time been developing its own CPUs. The internal market is what you could define as huge. The annual growth of the semiconductor market is  ~35% and approximately by 2010 China will be the worlds second largest producer of semiconductors.

  • By December of 2002 they had the Dragon, which worked at speeds up to 260 MHz.

  • By Ferbruary 2004 they have finsihed testing on a CPU capable of speeds up to 500 MHz. The most interesting though is the fact that is that it consumes only 0.5 W

It would ne nice to see these CPUs on the western market, as China seem to be quickly catching up to the big boys; Intel and AMD, when they are competing at an equivalent level. This does however look like a dream that will never come true.
