Small preview imageIntel and specific platforms seems to have a special bond, first we have the success with Centrino for portable computers and VIIV is about to conquer the HTPC market. Now we’ve received Intel information that states that Intel is working on a new desktop platform for the business market; Averill. Averill and, to some portion VIIV, will be Intel’s  way of simulating the desktop market that is about to lose ground to the mobile market. Desktop PCs aren’t as attractive as they used to be and more and more people are considering a laptop instead. Even if Intel is a big actor there to it would rather see that the desktop market remained dominant. Exactly what guidelines there will be for the Averill platformen is uncertain, but the ground rules have been set.

”Intel’s Averill lineup will include the Averill Pro and the Averill Fundamental. The Averill Pro platform includes the dual-core Conroe processor and the Q965 chipset (codenamed Broadwater), whereas the Pentium D processor and Q963 chipset will be featured in the Averill Fundamental series, the sources hinted. Both Averill-series platforms will support Microsoft’s Vista operating system, the sources added.”
