Buffalo has now uncovered two new DDR3 modules working at 1066MHz. The difference between the two modules is the storage capacity at 512MB and 1024MB respectively. The new modules have an operating voltage at only 1.5V and sports CAS7 latencies, unfortunately there aren’t any more specific latencies than that. At ”only” 1066MHz and CAS7, DDR3 is far from faster than today’s high-end DDR2 memories where we’ve even seen 2GB modules in the shape of the Mushkin XP2 series with significantly lower latencies; 5-4-4-15. These could then be pushed even tighter. We can’t deny that seeing DDR3 modules at this early stage bodes well and we’re eagerly waiting to see how these overclocks and what kind of bandwidth this would result in.
The prices of these modules are 37,000 YEN ($310) for a 512MB module and 75,000 YEN ($630) for a 1GB module. They are also sold in kits of 2 for 71,000 YEN ($595) and 141,000 YEN ($1185) respectively.
