AMD may lack a clear raw performer, but among its more affordable processors there is an incredible width. It has now launched two new models of the budget family Athlon II. It has presented two new models that are the first Athlon II processors sporting four enabled cores. Athlon II X4 620 and Athlon II X4 630 operate at 2.60GHz and 2.80GHz respectively, with 2MB L2 cache. The power consumption is locked in at max. 95W using AMD’s 45nm technology.

They sport the same features as the other models of the Athlon II family, like NX bit, AMD64, Cool’n’Quiet and AMD Virtualization. Athlon II X4 620 has already been listed in several stores and cost around 100€.

When and at what price the faster Athlon II X4 630 will make an appearance is uncertain but there is certainly room for yet another quad-core Athlon II model in Q4. Athlon II X4 635 will operate at 2.90GHz and much like its siblings be based on the AMD Propus core.
