Transferring video and audio signals wirelessly is one of the latest developments in home electronics and now the WiGig Alliance and VESA has decided to start up a new project in this area. The two organizations will bring forth a new wireless DisplayPort specifications for transferring video signals.

DisplayPort is mainly used among PCs, but WiGig Alliance and Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) will make the technology wider and attempt to transfer many gigabit of data to everything from monitors to projectors and TVs.

Even if it hasn’t released any concrete information on the specifications of the coming standard it claims that its performance and image quality will be equal to wired solutions. The technology will use the wireless 60 GHz frequency band.

”With many proprietary wireless A/V technologies on the market, our vision is to standardize a wireless display interface, and we are excited to partner with VESA to extend multi-gigabit wireless functionality to DisplayPort technology,” sade Dr. Ali Sadri, WiGig Alliance president och ordförande. ”Combining our wireless technology and VESA’s display expertise enables a high quality user experience with a certification program, enabling interoperability across CE, PC, tablets and handheld devices.”
