Windows Media Player is one of the main components of Microsoft’s Windows-operating system and of course the company spends a lot of time and money on it. According to EU’s anti-monopol laws Microsoft has been distributing its OS with the mediaplayer in an illegal way and during March 2004 the EU-commission convicted Microsoft to a fine of 497 million euro. Now phase two has begun and Microsoft has launched a new version of Windows XP without Windows Media Player. The new versions will arrive June 15th as Windows XP Home Edition N and Windows XP Professional Edition N. The price will be the exact same as the original versions and most likely very few will chose the new N-versions of Windows XP.
