HP announced last week that it had acquired system builder VoodooPC in a move which is very much alike Dell’s purchase of Alienware. Two major system builders have now acquired smaller but specialized manufacturers and many are probably been wondering what’s behind such deals. At Digital Trends they’ve tried to answer this and has had conversations with both HP and VoodooPC to try and get a better overview of the deal and what both parties may have to gain from this. To HP it’s pretty much all about margins, which the gaming market have quite a lot more of than the regular PC market, but it’s also way to refurbish HP’s image, which is hardly an attractive one outside the office.
To VoodooPC it means that it will get a part of HP’s strong development and hopefully also a piece of its resources to be able to create new and exciting systems. According to Digital Trends there are already detailed plans for a new line of products from HP and VoodooPC, which apparently will be something out of the ordinary.
