There have been numerous reports on Windows Vista and how Microsoft has managed to ship large quantities of its new operating system, despite teething problems and harsh reviews. New information suggests that even if Microsoft has managed to market Vista well, it is not even close to the success of Windows XP. Windows Vista was installed on 39% of all shipped computers in 2007. Compared to the 67% Windows XP grabbed in its first year, Vista seems to do poorly at best.

The sales are also quite interesting, Windows Vista has sold marginally better than what Windows XP sold during its first year, but then the PC market is twice as big as back then.

”Windows Vista operating system is proving far less popular with new PC buyers than Windows XP did during XP’s first year on the market, if statements by company chairman Bill Gates at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show are any measure.”
