USBCELL has to be one of the coolest AA batteries we’ve ever seen, this may not sounds as much but compared to Duracell’s integrated power meter USBCELL is a revolution. The batteries namely contain a charger and instead of putting them into an outlet you plug them into your USB ports, just like a USB memory. The batteries are NiHM and can be folded to bring out the USB connector. You then simply plug the battreies into two USB ports and let them charge, a 90% chare takes about 5 hours. The batteries can also be charged by using a regular NiMH charger but that takes up 7 hours.

The capacity of the batteries may not be the best at 1300mAh but more than expected considering the space the USB onnector and the circuits needed for everything to work takes up. Anyway, it is a rare solution which is alsmost guaranteed to be knock-offed and get followers. Already USBCELL is working on AAA and A9 models of its USB chargeable batteries. USBCELL can only be bought in the United Kingdom at the moment and the price for a two pack is currently £12.99 pund – almost $25. Hardly cheap, but still an exciting solution for an otherwise rather lame market.
