Almost all benchmarks, for testing hardware, are done in Windows. It’s a bit refreshing to see a comparison between two alternative operating system, namely the Linux distribution Ubuntu 9.10 and Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard). The tests where done on a Mac mini and the general idea was to show the performance of the two operating systems, with some interesting results.

First of all performance varies a lot and not just between the two systems, also between 32-bit and 64-bit version of Ubuntu. The Linux operating system claims the most victories but Mac OS X turns out to better at handling heavy loads like Ray-tracing and database work.

A good read for those who want to learn more of the alternative systems and bored of Windows benchmarks.
