Tyan Tiger K9HE S3970 is the complicated name of Tyan’s first motherboard intended for AMD’s coming Socket F platform. Socket F, is also known as LGA-1207, which will be the first AMD’s first attempt with an LGA-based (Land Grid Array) processor socket. This means that the pins are located in the socket instead of on the processor. Just as the system system Intel uses with Socket 775. Socket F has not been officially launched yet, but despite that they have over at Phoronix come across Tyan’s first Socket F motherboard that amongst others suports dual Opteron processors of the 200 series and registered ECC DDR2 memory.

The motherboard uses a ServerWorks BCM5785 (HT1000) chipset and in the true spirit of Tyan it seems like a truly beafy server motherboard. They take the time to really dig into the board and its functions and even if they don’t have a processor to test the board with it’s interesting to see how AMD’s new server platform might look like.
