The tip of the day is about the very useful ”Open with” feature. This feature is very useful when you want to open a file with another program than the defualt one.

Often when you open up the ”Open with” dialog there are tons of programs to pick from, but it is quite rare that you are interested in more than one or two of them. You can simply clean up this list then. Start the Registry Editor: Start > Run > regedit and then go to;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

Here you locate the file extension you want to change the programs for, e.g. .txt. Open this key and go to ”OpenWithList”. Here you will find all the programs that will appear when you chose ”Open with” for a .txt-file. Simply edit the list as you like.

 I have a tip to share!
