Lenovo has released something could be considered a wet dream for many; a computer with a bit odd concept. The computer comes with an Ivy Bridge processor, but is completed with an ARM based Qualcomm circuits for dual-boot and longer battery times.

ThinkPad X1 Hybrid is a new computer from Lenovo that sports the latest Core i3, i5 or i7 processors (IVy Bridge at launch) depending on configuration and up to 8 GB RAM. The computer uses the integrated graphics HD 4000 found in the processor, and it can be equipped with either a harddrive or SSD. In this shape the ultrathin notebook will be 16 mm thin and un up to 5 hours on the battery. It ships with Windows 7 (Windows 8 when launched).

Besides what has to be considered pretty standard we find something more. A dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060, 1 GB DDR3 together with 16 GB internal storage. The idea behind this is being able to perform simpler tasks while also getting more from the battery. Together with a Linux operating system called Instant Media Mode the computer will run up to 10 hours.

The computer also sports what Lenovo calls Rapid Charge Technology, which charge up the battery to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. It also sports spill-resistant keyboard and other Lenovo_ThinkPad_X1a stock features of the Lenovo ThinkPad series. The computer comes with a 14″ screen with a probabe resolution at 1366 x 768 px.

ThinkPad X1 Hybrid will be available in Q2 at 1,599 dollar. The computer is mainly for the business user and the question is if there is a demand for this kind of dual-systems? We like the idea though, but we would not expect these to become common anytime soon.
