Children’s Machine (CM1) is the official name of the computer that has earlier been nicknamed the $100 laptop or OLPC, One Laptop per Child, after the name of the organisation that is behind the project. This laptop is intended to be sold extremely cheap to developing countries and contribute to better technological education in countries with a poor economy. But the new name of the $100 laptop isn’t all, as some of the technical specifications have been revealed. The computer will use a 7.5″ TFT display with a 1200×900 px resolution and the processor is a 400MHz AMD Geode backed up by 128MB RAM.

The operating system is based on a Linux Fedora distribution with has been slimmed quite a lot to take up as little space as possible and minimize the system requirements. CM1 are moving rapidly towards a final launch and we sincerely hope that the prodject is a success. More information about CM1 can be found at OLPC Wiki.
