Symantec, perhaps best known for its Norton software, has now chosen to confess that is has used a so called rootkit. They have used a program that has hidden a folder on the drive from Windows’ API to stop users from accidenty deleting important files. That this created a vulnerability didn’t seem to be as important that its software remained intact, but it has now chosen to release a patch to the program, Norton Systemworks, which fix this. That one of the world’s best known security companies seriously consider using a rootkit makes you wonder whether you perhaps will do better without their program instead.
