Sun Microsystems has not been doing very well for the past few years, but the last quarter has revealed a turn of events. The last fiscal quarter was astonishingly good with a rise in profit. Sun reported a profit of $329 million USD, compared to a loss of $301 million same period last year. The significant improvement is not due to a higher revenue, but a more efficient organization and cost reduction methods. Sun managed to reduce the operating costs with close to 25% over the last year, from $1.97 billion to $1.49 billion. It wasn’t long ago Scott McNealy decided to step down as CEO in favor of Jonathan Schwartz. McNealy was known for his very aggressive tone against competition. With Schwartz as CEO Sun has been focusing a lot more on the positive things instead of attacking other companies.
