Storage manufacturer Hitachi is the next to launch 3TB harddrives and even if they were listed back in November already the new Deskstar 7K3000 modell is finally in stock.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 is different from WD Caviar Green – the first to reach 3TB capacity – since it focuses on performance. With a 7200 RPM engine the drives should offer better transfer speeds, which can come to use with the fresh SATA 6,0 Gbps interface and 64MB cache.

Hitachi has promised an increase of 27% in PCMark Vantage when comapred to current drives and with a maximal internal transfer speed of på 207 MB/s. The drive supports NCQ and will consume 6.8 watt when idle and make noise worth of 29 dBA. The load numbers were not mentioned.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 costs around 200€, which makes it cheaper than the competing WD Caviar Green 3TB. How they match up in a direct comparison remains to be seen.
