HighPoint has announced two new SATA controller cards using Marvell’s SATA 6.0 Gbps controller 88SE9130. The cards enable users to merge SSD and HDD into one storage volume. HighPoint RocketHybrid HBA uses Marvell’s HyperDuo technology that takes advantage of the best features of both technologies.

The controller cards will with its PCIe x1 interface connect to an available expansion slots and have two SATA or eSATA ports with SATA 6.0 Gbps support. The neat thing about Marvell’s new Duo controller circuit is that users can connect a SSD and a HDD and these will then merge into a single storage volume. This will seamlessly use the speed of the SSD and the storage capacity of the HDD.

HyperDuo virtual drives are optimized for secure, high-performance computing, and deliver 80 percent of the SSD’s performance boost, with 100 percent of the HDD’s capacity.

HighPoint RocketHybrid 1220 (SATA) and RockerHybrid 1222 (eSATA) will be available in February and target high-end systems. HighPoint points to NAS, gaming PCs and workstations.
