Sony and its new series of VAIO Z series of ultraportable computers looks to slide into the seldom seen product category of expensive but still almost worth the money. Early rumors spoke of QuadSSD configurations and this has been confirmed by Sony’s own press material where it revealed the Core i7 notebook series with 128GB or 256GB capacity, which consists of a QuadSSD configuration in RAID 0.
Backed by a 2.4GHz or 2.66GHz Core i7 CPU with up to 6GB DDR3 RAM performance will be one of the highlights and Sony boasts that performance will be up to 6.2 times faster than a regular 5200 RPM harddrive. Sony also has a hybrid solution for the graphics where Intel’s integrated GPU is assisted by a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU when needed.
Despite the seemingly hot specifications the computer is pretty slim and weighs only 1.43kg (measurements: 210 x 23.8-32.7 x 314 mm (D x H x B)).
Sony is expected to let loose the VAIO Z series by the end of March, but we’re still waiting for the price to be revealed.
