Small preview image

Sony presented some new OLED panels during an event in Tokyo, Japan, and it has certainly tried to push the technology to its limits, especially the fact that OLED panels can be made pretty thin. Sony has namely revealed a 3.5″ OLED display with 320×220 pixels resolution which is only 0.2mm thin. It also presented a somewhat larger 11″ display panel with 960×540 pixels resolution which was only 0.3mm deep. Certainly impressive and even though 3.5″ and 11″ are not very big, they are substantially larger than previous superthin OLED panels, which was still twice as thick as Sony’s latest creations.

We’re eager to see if Sony can push even further, but somehow we feel that it’s not really necessary. Hopefully this will lead to thinner monitors using OLED technology and we’re looking forward to seeing some commercial products. The image quality seems superb despite the mere thickness.
