Small preview imageSony has often been criticized for using own standards when it comes to its home electronics, everything from sound  format to storage formats. Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Duo are two flash based storage formats that Sony uses with its home electronics, which are, to many’s dispare, not compatible with other manufacturer’s gadgets. Sony has now launched a new model of the Memory Stick series, namely a new, smaller version called Memory Stick Micro M2. The M2 series will be launched with 256MB, 512MB and 1GB capacity. The format of the memory are only 15×12.5×1.2mm and will be used by cell phones among others.

That we will soon be needing 50-in-1 memory card readers doesn’t seem to bother Sony and the rest, nor that it’s getting harder and harder to keep the various formats apart.
