GeForce GTX 465 is built on a stripped down version of NVIDIA’s GF100 GPU. New information indicates that some models of GTX 465 can be unlocked to big brother GTX 470 through a simple BIOS update.

According to the same source NVIDIA has used GeForce GTX 470 cards that, through software, has been modified to match GeForce GTX 465. This means that unlocking a card is only possible if you have one of these cards, which is indicated by the ten memory circuits. Regular GeForce GTX 465 cards only has 8 memory circuits.

The guide and the benchmarks that has been published at lab501.ro shows that the right card can get access to the 96 extra CUDA processors and the wider memory bus of GTX 470.

This resulted in clear performance gains, but the question is how common this is in the retail segment. If anyone would run into a GTX 465 card with 10 memory circuits it could be worth a try.
