Intel Skulltrail is the next ”enthusiast platform” from Intel. It will replace the media creation platform V8, which was introduced to compete with AMD 4×4. Neither V8 nor 4×4 have been very successful as they were both quite limited. Enthusiasts have a tendency of wanting to overclock things, and none of the them were capable of any overclocking worth mentioning. The parallel performance may have been great, but since practically all games are (still) single-threaded, the appeal of the platforms was close to zero.

Skulltrail is different. It has already been proven to be a great overclocker and with two Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 there is certainly potential for more. And unlike V8, Skulltrail supports up to four graphics cards, both Quad-SLI and CrossFire X.

More and more people have gotten their hands on complete platforms, and pictures posted by OverclockZone user ZoLKoRn reveals two very long SLI bridges. We knew that Skulltrail would support SLI, and CrossFire X, but these are probably the longest SLI bridges we have ever seen.
