SiS announced their 741 chipset for the Athlon platform today. This new chipset supports DDR400, and has an integrated graphic core, placing it directly against NVIDIA’s NForce2 with integrated GForce4 MX. Although SiS’ solution only has 3.2 GB of memory bandwith available.

It’s southbridge, the SiS964, provides 2x PATA, 2x SATA(+RAID), 8 USB 2.0 ports, 5.1 sound, modem and ethernet connection. Nothing new or special around if I may say so.

This chipset is (probably) targeted towards the low-end sector (when looking at the specifications); The question remains how competitive it will be against NVIDIA’s solution, or VIA’s KT600 .
