Case maker SilverStone has presented a new case that literally stands out. SilverStone Fortress FT03 use an odd design where the hole idea builds on the idea of stacking hardware. With a tower design the case need little space on the floor and holds Micro-ATX format motherboards.

SilverStones Fortress FT03 builds on an aluminum covered steel structure and a white or black exterior measuring 235 x 487 x 284 mm. The weight of the case is specified to 6.7 kg and even though it’s shallow it can fit graphics cards up to 34cm long and CPU coolers up to 167mm tall. This is thanks to the fact the motherboard is turned 90 degrees and the expansion slots are located at the top of the case. The only real limitation of this odd design is that the power supply can be no ddeper than 180mm.

Traditional computer chassis designs take up desktop room by not only their physical footprint, but they also require additional space for cable connections. With the FT03, there are no such restrictions because its beautiful, 2.5mm thick, sand-blasted and anodized aluminium outer shells have no cable connectors to be found on all four sides, which frees up tremendous amount of desktop real estate for its users.

SilverStone has made room for one optical drive in slim design and the cooling technology is based on a chimney effect where hot air moves up through the case. The case uses three 120mm fans for maintaining a good airflow. The fans are bundled and operate at 22 dBA and 1200 RPM.

Fortress FT03 has room for three 3.5″ harddrives and a single 2.5″ drive. Other functions worth mentioning include two USB 3.0 ports and connectors for headphones and microphone. To make it easier to clear CMOS, SilverStone has deveoped a remote connection that enables you to reset the settings without having to open the case.

SilverStone is expected to start selling the case by the end of January. Prices start at 140€.
