Sharp has developed an LCD monitor with, the least to say, impressive specifications, which it has displayed at Ceatec. The monitor measures 64″ which is fairly big, but what is really enticing is the resolution. Sharp has namely built a panel with almost 9 Megapixel resolution, which has resulted in a working space of 4096 times 2160 pixels. You can compare this to regular HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels. Most of you have probably realized that this is a not a retail model we will see anytime soon.

So far, this is just a prototype but Sharp is working on a model that can be used by movie developers and in medicine research.

”Small details, like plumes of smoke over an aerial shot of a rural village, can be picked out. The monitor can also be divided into quarters and display four high-definition videos at once.”

Sharp had other LCD prototypes to display as well and one of them, named Mega Contrast, is truly God’s gift to those who are tired of the LCD technology’s poor contrast ratio. As most LCD monitors have a contrast ratio of about 1000:1, the Mega Contrast model has a ratio of staggering 1 000 000:1; a million to one. A blend of these two and we’re in heaven.
