Seagate och Maxtor har tillsammans annonserat att Seagate kommer att ta över Maxtor i en aktietransaktion. Det nya företaget kommer att ägas till 84% av Seagate tidigare aktieägare och resterande av Maxtors förra aktieägare. Detta är givetvis en del av Seagates att verkligen etablera sig som den ledande hårddisktillverkaren på marknaden. Genom övertagandet hoppas Seagate på att kunna effektivisera och utöka sitt sortiment, men framförallt förbättra sitt nuvarande. Maxtor kommer att smälta in i Seagate och namnet Maxtor kommer att försvinna till förmån för Seagate.
