Intel is said to have told partners there will be 20% performance boost with its coming processor architecture, compared to the current mobile Arrandale architecture. Sandy Bridge will launch early next year and will bring new Intel AV instructions to improve performance compared to current architectures.

There is likely more than just new instructions in play here, and Intel did not reveal whether the performance gains would be at the same frequency or when comparing ”equivalent” models, e.g. flagship products  like the current top model of the Arrandale Core i7 family.

Do take the story with a pinch of salt since Intel hasn’t commented on the story and we’re still a long way to go before the new architecture will launch. We do know that the architecture has come a long way and that it is healthy.
