SanDisk is not one of the better known MP3 player manufacturers here in the north of Europe, but mainly known for its flash memory cards, which in turn is the reason for the company’s success with its MP3 players. As the flash memory based players has taken over after the harddrive based units SanDisk’s progress with NAND flash memory manufacturing has bloomed. It has better access and and prices for the main component of its players which has tipped the scales. With 1 million sold MP3 players in the USA during the last quarter of 2005 SanDisk claims to be the second largest actor on the American market. Far behind Apple though that sold 14 million iPods during the same period.
