Samsung is one of the biggest panel manufacturers in the world and the company isn’t just a big player in monitors, but also giant in TVs. The company has now presented a new LCD panel called Super PLS that will be better than the popular IPS panel in several ways.

Samsung says that the new Super Plane to Line Switching technology will improve the already good viewing angles of In Plane Switching with 100%. At the same time it adds 10% better brightness and lower production costs by 15%.

Samsung has applied for 30 different patents to develop the new LCD technology and with support for WXGA resolutions  (1366×768 pixels) the Super PLS technology targets smartphones and tablets. Perhaps a worthy challenger to the Retina Display, used by e.g. Apple iPhone 4.

Mass production will start in Q1 2011 and we hope to see products shortly afterwards.
