Both AMD and NVIDIA are working on their first DirectX 11 graphics circuits, which both should be using the more efficient 40nm technology. By the sound of it both AMD and NVIDIA may have run into some problems as rumors are saying that AMD has postponed the launch of RV870. Earlier it was said that RV870 would arrive with DX11 support early in the third quarter. It looks like we will have to wait until the fourth quarter.

Exactly why remains clouded, if it is at all correct, but considering the problems TSMC is having it may very well be why both AMD and NVIDIA has moved the launch. This could also explain the earlier rumors of NVIDIA being forced to postpone the launch of GT300. Even if earlier indicators pointed to a launch in October for the DirectX 11 capable GT300 circuit, NVIDIA has apparently set its sight on the first quarter of next year instead.

RV740 first to use 40nm

As always it is a bit early to say exactly what will happen, but the first DirectX 11 support looks to come a bit later than first anticipated.
