Radeon X1950XTX seems to be the card to fill the gap between the current generation and ATi’s new DX10 architecture R600. R580+ is the code-name for ATI’s new flagship while Radeon X1950 will be the name of the production cards. Just as the name implies there aren’t many differences between X1950 and the X1900 series, we’ve already reported about the news there will be and it pretty much just higher freuqencies, both core and memory. The graphics memory will namely be GDDR4 and ATI will so be the first to launch a graphics card using the new memory standard. Exactly what frequencies the cards will be using seems to be a bit foggy at this time, but it may very well vary between manufacturers.

The last big difference is that the X1950 series will use a completely new cooler and as the rumors have stated it seems like model similar to the one third party manufacturer Arctic Cooling has developed earlier.

What might be worth mentioning is that ATI will now put the performance of X1950XTX and X1950 Crossfire on the same level, thus not slower memory or lower frequencies with the Crossfire card. We’re truly looking forward to seeing how ATI’s new flagship performs and according to DailyTech we should see the first samples on August 7. This is what the new cooler looks like:
