Radeon HD 4890 in April, Radeon HD 4770/4750 in May

That AMD has something coming to counter NVIDIA’s most recent launches, GeForce GTX 285 and GTX 295, hardly comes as a surprise. Earlier we’ve heard about a card called Radeon HD 4970, but this was later dismissed. Now it seems like AMD has a new card coming that is said to become Radeon HD 4890, based on the rumored RV790 core, and that AMD will deliver two different models, where one will sport tweaked frequencies with both GPU and memory.

The specifications listed in the table are for the standard version of Radeon HD 4890 and not the OC version of the card. The overclocked version, HD 4890 OC, will offer 25-30% higher performance and will certainly need higher clock frequencies to achieve this. Possibly the Radeon HD 4890 will only have 512MB memory, while the Radeon HD 4890 will sport the full 1GB to further differentiate the two.

The price of Radeon HD 4890 OC will be $299 when it appears at the end of April, while the standard model should appear in the middle of the month. VR-Zone also reports that the Radeon 4700 series will be released the month after, with two models targeting the renamed GeForce GTS 250 and 240 cards. Contrary to earlier belief that AMD would launch the first 40nm cards in April.

An interesting addition to the 40nm Radeon HD 4700 series cards is that they will sport a new triple-phase power design for more efficient power usage.
