External harddrives with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 are very pleasant to use if you’ve ever experienced big file transfers over USB 2.0. PQI has now announced the external harddrive H566 which it claims to be the first available 2.5″ USB 3.0 harddrive. In a slim and stylish metal casing PQI offers storage capacity up to 640GB and theoretic speeds up to 5Gbps.

Since the company has chosen to limit itself to mechanical drives it will of course not get near these speeds, but we can count on at least double of what USB 2.0 can achieve, which is still really nice.

Now we’re just waiting for more SSD- based USB 3.0 products where the 2.5″ standard isn’t limiting in the same way and we can really take advantage of the high transfer rate of the interface.

PQI H566 measures 128 x 82,5 x 17 mm and weighs only 200g. No price was mentioned, but the drive ships with 3 years warranty and ships with automatic backup software and encryption technology.
