The power supply is an often neglected piece of hardware. Many cases comes with a power supply preinstalled, which is of course very convenient and often cheaper than buying the case and power supply separate. The only problem is that the quality of the power supply might sometimes be lacking. There are of course plenty of exceptions, but all too many cheap out when buying a power supply. At the same time, many other exaggerate and buy twice as powerful power supplies as they actually need. This is partly to blame on the lack of quality some power supplies have and the resulting recommendations from various hardware vendors. In any case, Hardware secrets has published a 14 page tutorial on the power supply. A well worth read if you’re interested in electronics or about to invest in a new power supply.
