Philips has many years of experience in remote control development. The company has now launched a new remote for multimedia computers. Philips DUAL comes in a regular remote control format, but has a QWERTY keyboard too.

The Philips Home Control division that developed the remote has looked at analyses and surveys to find out what what users really want to do with their TVs and multimedia computers. They concluded that many was asking for an easy way of searching, or access social networks from the sofa.

With Philips DUAL the company hopes to satisfy these needs by integrating a complete QWERTY keyboard in a regular remote. The top of Philips DUAL we find simple remote control functions with keys and a touch pad. Philips speaks of motion control in the press release, which indicates some sort of gyroscopic functions. The least you will be able to control the mouse pointer through the touch pad and be ready to enter text by flipping it over.

”It was challenging to develop this remote to cater for all these features, while at the same time we wanted the design to be slim, easy to operate and modern looking. From the enormous interest we have gathered during the pre-launch period, I can honestly say we succeeded with glory.”

Price and launch date were not mentioned, but we look forward to hearing more of Philips’ new concept.
