Panasonic is keeping the plasma development cutting edge and when we hear about its latest creation we can see that they are doing a bang up job. Panasonic Z1 was recently unveiled to the Japanese market and the number 1 in the name comes from the fact that the TV is only 1″ thick. The panel is called NeoPDP and sports 40,000:1 contrast ratio, but what really appeals is that it doesn’t require any cables to receive video signals.

Panasonic Z1 uses the WirelessHD standard that enables devices to send high definition video and audio to the TV without wires. The panel sports Full HD resolution (1080p) and will at the same time consume half the power of Panasonic’s current Z800 series.

It’s not just the video signals that are transmitted via radio frequencies, but also the remote use RF waves, which will certainly be appreciated by those accustomed to IR remotes. The wallet will take a big hit on the other hand since the minor of the sires, measuring 46″, will cost around $6,150 when it arrives in Japan on April 20. When or even if it will reach outside Japan is something we will just have to wait and see, but just in case it does, start saving.
