Server maker Oracle has announced its latest SPARC processor, dubbed SPARC T3. It will be the first processor circuit on the market sporting 16 cores. SPARC T3 will offer twice the performance of previous models in the T series and is expected to be used in 4-way servers for a total of 64 cores.
SPARC T3 operates at 1.65 GHz and each SPARC V9 cores can handle 8 simultaneous threads, which means that each CPU can execute 128 processor threads under the same cycle. The processor is made with 40 nanometer technology and the circuit also sports dual integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet controllers.
SPARC T3 is the name of Oracle’s new server solutions housing the new 16-core processor. These system comes with one to four processors and in a variety of sizes, from the blade server SPARC T3-1B with 1U case to the flagship SPARC T3-4 with 5U case.
Highlighting the unrivaled performance and benefits of tightly engineered Oracle software and Oracle hardware, the SPARC T3 systems have achieved nine world-record results, including a SPECj Enterprise2010 result, announced today.
The servers uses the Oracles Solaris operating system and Oracle VM for SPARC, and comes with dedicated cryptographic accelerators for improved data security and encryption.
