The super-cheap laptop XO, designed by the One Laptop Per Child Organization, is being mass produced at Quanta Computer’s plant in Changshu, China. The project was founded by Nicholas Negroponte back in 2005 and the goal was to make a computer that could be sold for $100 USD. The price is still higher than that, but it is still a very cheap computer and many of the third world countries have shown interest in the education solutions offered by the OLPC organization. Quanta Computer recently doubled its capacity to prepare for the XO production and seems to be handling the mass production just fine. Children in developing countries should start receiving XO laptops later this month according to OLPC.
